Fall Home Decor

I love to decorate for each of the seasons. I’m not sure when it started, but I have found that there is something special about moving with the rhythm of the year and marking the beginning of a new season with freshness and anticipation. And fall is my favorite time of all; where warm velvety pillows and spicy candles set the atmosphere and allow you to settle in for the snug days to come.

Having separate decor for each season sounds sounds a little overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are seven easy switches that are affordable and that really make things cozy! And you don’t have do these things all at once. I have built this over time…each year adding something to the fall decor collection.

1. Outdoor Mat

The “fallscape” at the door is a must and layering door mats is so easy! Just put your normal door mat on top of a decorative mat and you have created a fall entry way! We have double doors and our door mat is the “estate size”…so while I really wanted to get this Black and White Plaid Rug from Amazon, I opted to buy black and white plaid fabric from Joann to get the custom size that I wanted.

2. Door Wreath

Nothing says “welcome fall” like a beautiful door wreath. There are endless options on where to buy and what style to go for, but my favorite go to place is Target or even Amazon has some gorgeous options!

3. Pillows

Changing out pillows covers is the easiest way to change the look of your home every season. You can buy feather pillow inserts on Amazon for a steal, and then rotate the covers. I love velvet pillows because it creates a cozy, but luxurious texture. Pillow covers can get pricey, but I buy a few each year which helps defray the cost.

I have these Pottery Barn Velvet Pillow Covers: https://www.potterybarn.com/products/washed-velvet-pillow-cover-sumac

but I also love these from World Market at the lower price point: http://bit.ly/2PjO8qE

4. Blankets

Faux furs, mohair, and chenille! Create an atmosphere of warm and cozy by adding multiple blankets with different layers of texture and visual interest.

5. Lanterns

Generally, lanterns are a great decor item for all the seasons, so this is a great all-seasons investment. Our indoor lanterns and battery operated candles are from Pier One and have such a gorgeous warm glow in the evening. You can get them here: http://bit.ly/2wBe1dX

But there are also these from Amazon that are weather resistant for outdoor spaces (and so affordable!): https://amzn.to/2N2y0MW

6. Pumpkins (all the pumpkins!)

It wouldn’t be fall without the pumpkin decor! Pumpkins on the table, on the mantel, by the doormat!

7. Candles

The warm glow of a candle and the fragrance wafting in the air! These are my top three favorite fall candles…each with different variations of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
