I’ve noticed that a lot of people have made a New Year’s resolution that involves reading…myself included. My goal for this year was to be more consistent with my reading habit, aiming to read just 15 minutes a day. And now that we are edging towards the end of the first month, we are all trying to figure out what to read next! So, I’ve put together a short list of options for you!
Novel – Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson This sweet book is about two worlds colliding and an unexpected friendship between a retired and proper English Major and the lovely Pakistani shopkeeper in the village. A delightful and lovely read.
Classic – The Odyssey by Homer. I was remarkably intimidated by this book, but I don’t want you to be. In fact, get the book on Audible and have Sir Ian McKellen narrate it to you while you read along. You will find yourself transported into the story in no time.
Business – One Beautiful Dream by Jennifer Fulwiler. This isn’t technically a business book…but I was inspired to start my website because of this book. It is about a mom of six kids who decided that she could follow her dreams and have it all as long as she reimagined what having it all looked like. It is deep and hilarious and most of all inspiring. If you need hope that you can embark on your own dreams and still nurture your family, this is a great book for you. The audiobook version is narrated by the author, so that is a real treat!
Mystery – Still Life by Louise Penny. This is the first book in the Inspector Gamache series which follows the Inspector and his team from the Surêté du Québec. The plot is thick and the writing is impeccable. I also love the audio version because it makes me feel like I’m actually listening to the voice of Inspector Gamache! You can find that here on Audible.
Faith – A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie This slim volume of prayers is organized by day and night. I went through it during my prayer time and it was so enriching to have words and thoughts to pray that were not my own.
If this list didn’t resonate with you, don’t worry! I have an entire Pinterest page of reading options. Because I am so visual, it helps to have a Pinterest board of book covers to scroll through. I have it categorized, so it is easy to navigate. Click here to explore the board and see what might interest you!
